Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Over the summer I had an opportunity to meet with the regional rep from
SafeRoutesVT, a program from the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
We started our partnership to refocus efforts on safe routes for walking and
biking (and roller-blading) to school. Our goal is to create our own Orchard
Safe Routes Team to increase community input and promote healthy transportation
methods. This week the students took a survey on how they come
to school each day. The data will be shared with you in the near future.
We’ll be celebrating International Walk To School Day in a couple of weeks.
Coincidentally, parents alerted me to potential dangers on Baldwin Avenue
and this week we began assessing how students and cars interact near the
Orchard Bike Path. We also started working with the South Burlington Public
Works Department to see how we can create a better system.
In the mean time, we are asking that parents who drop off avoid parking
on the school side of Baldwin Avenue. By avoiding dropping off or parking
in front of the big rocks, we will all be making a positive step forward
toward the safety of our students.
Thanks to all of our bakers and volunteers last Sunday. The treats were
amazing and the Rest-Stop fundraiser was very successful!
It looks like we survived our first full week! Have a great weekend; take some time to
read to your child.
